A convenient built-in level helps you to mount it straight. Select active device, action, duration, and optionally, schedule. Help & Support – Help provides access to searchable articles for all Hive products as well as contact information for customer support.
Out of these components, you only need to place the Hive thermostat in full view. The thermostat itself is a small rectangular white box with a large dial in the center. When you turn the dial, the glass panel lights up with temperature information.
Winner (features): Nest vs Hive
On the left, you can control the brightness by tapping one of the orange dots. The brightness changes to correspond to the changed setting. Tapping on the center of the light bulb icon turns the light on/off.
"Hive launches first products built on its Honeycomb IoT platform". "British Gas creates Hive brand to house internet-enabled tech products". There was criticism of Hive because users could only operate devices designed for the company's system, instead of integrating multiple platforms like companies such as nCube do.
Winner (ease of use): Nest vs Hive
"Hive expands connected home range with Active Plug and Window, Door sensors". On September 27, 2016, the company launched two new smart LED bulbs that can be controlled to alter the colour and tone of the bulbs. On June 13, 2016, the company launched the Active Light, supplied by the Aurora Group, which users can control remotely to turn the bulb on and off and program lighting schedules. In 2015 the company announced future plans to use the Honeycomb platform to support and allow integration with third-party products including a Samsung camera. You'll find that warmth quickly starts to escape from your home when the sun goes down and temperatures start to drop. Closing all the curtains or blinds in your home is a simple but effective way of stopping heat loss – especially if you have older windows.
Any interactions with the outside world, such as Alexa or notifications, are done through the Hive Hub. However, Hive provides everything you need with the exception of a screwdriver. The Control tab shows the current status of the Window or Door sensor along with the latest log entries.

If you tap on one of the light bulb icons in the My Hive Home screen, you see a screen that looks like the one on the left below. Taking a quick tour of the screen, at the top left of the screen, you’ll see a circular “re-sync” icon. Tapping that will force the application to resynchronize with the Hive’s servers. (In the iOS version, you tap and pull down the screen to synchronize.) Below the “Last updated” notice there are three choices for Control, Edit Schedule, and Action. After discovery, you’ll have an opportunity to rename each device, or, you can skip renaming for now and rename them later. The two screenshots below show the starting of the discovery process and the completion of discovery of the five devices.
The Heat Link is a white glossy box attached to your boiler. The design doesn’t matter because it’s installed somewhere out of sight. But if you’re still not sold on the idea of smart thermostats, the following are some convincing reasons to install a smart thermostat in your home. In this article, we compare Hive and Nest thermostats across various verticals like design, installation, features, and others.
Why Hive?
If you dry on a radiator instead, hang clothes nearby rather than directly on the radiator. Wet clothes cool the radiator, which makes your boiler work harder to keep things warm and cosy for you. If you do need to use the tumble dryer, using the auto-dry setting is better than using a timed cycle, and eco-balls are also a great way to speed up the drying process.
The icon to the left of each schedule shows both the brightness and the color of the light during the schedule period. The Actions icon takes you to a screen that shows in which actions the selected device participates. From that screen, you can add new actions, turn on/off the action and edit parameters. It’s worth noting that this feature is only available on the Android version of the Hive app. It looks like the Android app may have been upgraded first and the iOS app will catch up. At the bottom of the screen, there’s a control that shows the next scheduled action for the light bulb.
First, Nest allows you to set geolocation for several accounts and phones. As such, Nest will turn the thermostats on if any of the designated family members come back home. You can also install the Hive app on the phones of every other member of the family. As such, the thermostat will also capture their geolocations and work accordingly.
The Hive app allows you to control our smart devices from wherever you are, so it's easy to get everything just right. The image below shows a recording of an event triggered by a person . “Person” is shown at the top of the screen along with a time stamp that increments in seconds during the recording. You can schedule times during which monitoring isn’t active. Note that the scheduling for this device works that same way as it does for all of the other Hive devices.
"Hive unveils sleek new smart thermostat and connected home gadgets you might actually want". "Hive 2 begins major push by British Gas into smart home with range of connected devices". Since this was announced, there has been an increase in partnerships between smart thermostat companies and utility companies. Control it all with the Hive app or with just your voice.

However, the remote sensors don’t capture motion or occupancy details, which means they’ll continue cooling or heating a room even if there’s no one there. You can install remote sensors in different parts of your home. These sensors will capture temperature data from different parts of your home and send them back to the thermostat. As such, they can optimize the temperature in different rooms according to your preferences. The thermostats will continue learning your schedule, continually updating it to ensure it meets your exact requirements. Over time, you won’t even have to program the thermostat or control it anymore because it will be perfectly optimized to your needs.
The Hive App
After two weeks, the Nest thermostat will use all of your previous data to create a schedule that perfectly fits your needs. However, if you opt for Nest Learning Thermostat or Nest Thermostat E, the US models aren’t portable since they need to be hardwired to the wall. Compared to that, the European models are portable since they use USB cable as a power source. Depending on the existing wiring for your old thermostat, both Hive and Nest can be pretty easy to install. That being said, if you don’t have a c-wire, Nest thermostat might be a bit more complex to install than Hive. Regarding the newest model, Nest Thermostat, it doesn’t have a USB port at all nor does it connect to a c-wire for power.

Changes can be made but when you press save all that happens is a constant spinning circle. Seems like Hive are being left behind by the likes of Nest. I understand that from the manufacturer’s perspective, at some point in time you have to stop adding new features and actually ship a new product. And perhaps the feature set included at the product’s launch is all you really want/need from a camera.
