Both the mobile apps and the desktop dashboard do a good job of providing centralized control of most, but not all of your Hive products. (There’s no desktop support for the Hive View camera yet). Next, feed the wires through the hold in the backplate and connect them as detailed in the Quick start guide. Finally, snap the thermostat into place and restore power to your HVAC system. You finish your installation using either the Hive mobile apps or the Hive online dashboard. Just follow the “install devices” to pair the thermostat with your Hive Hub.

In one recent study based on average annual energy consumption, Hive found that by installing a new thermostat, people could save more than £300 each year on their bills. They use “geofencing” technology to recognise when people enter or leave the home and turn the heating on or off accordingly. They provide alerts when there’s a problem with the system that might be causing inefficiency. And they recognise when an intervention may be needed to protect the system – when frost threatens your pipes, say – and switch on to avoid the risk of an expensive failure.

Let’s take a closer look at each of the products in the Pack. You can create an account with your web browser at the Hive website, or you can download Android or iOS mobile apps. For those of you with an Apple Watch, there is also a Watch app. Provide an extra sense of safety in the event that something should happen to an elderly or loved ones.
The installation team has a great eye for the details, which was really appreciated. The system is very simple so anyone can use all the features "easily". The Smart House Hive is for people that want to take a DIY approach to the home automation process.
Does Hive thermostat have to be wall-mounted?
With this feature, you can tell your thermostat when you go on holiday. The thermostat will maintain a set temperature to prevent your pipes from freezing. When you return, it will greet you with your desired temperature. The only way to obtain constant power over USB on a US model is to tinker with the back plate’s terminals in order to route the USB cable from the wall to the thermostat.

I installed the Hive Alexa skill and added the Hive device to the Google Home app, and both platforms recognized the three active products that I had installed. Both platforms correctly turned on and off each of three devices individually. I put the three devices into Groups or Rooms , and all responded appropriately to voice commands, as well. The lights dimmed as expected using voice commands issued to either smart speaker.

The green LED located just below the PIR sensor flashes briefly when motion is detected. If motion was detected before five minutes of no motion, the light would come on again for 30 seconds, but a second alert wasn’t sent. If you don’t create an account using your browser, you can create one within the Hive app on your mobile device. You are prompted for an email address and contact information.

There is no monthly fee to use Nest thermostats and enjoy all of their features. However, if you get a Hive Live membership, you’ll have to pay £2.99 per month for discounts on all Hive products, ongoing warranty on your products, and SMS alerts. However, when it comes to the Hive or Nest thermostats, we firmly stand by Google’s Nest Thermostats.
Does Hive replace existing thermostat?
It should also be installed in a separate room from a radiator controlled by a thermostatic radiator valve. If you install the two of them in the same room, your central heating may always be on. It includes all of the features available in the thermostat, but it’s not quite as intuitive as one may hope.
Our smart devices, including our award-winning thermostat, work together so your home works around you. If you’re struggling with your energy bills, always contact your energy provider to see if they can offer any assistance. They may be able to review your bill and payment plan or have hardship funds available. There’s help available whether you are a British Gas customer, or with a different supplier. The collective impact of these benefits is often surprisingly large.
They are easy to install and let you heat each room just how you like. What makes the devices more interesting is the ability to build what Hive calls 'Actions'. These make the various devices much more useful and personal to you. The Actions tab can allow you set up various alerts, allowing you, for example to be notified by text or email if the door opens. As you mostly only want to know about is happening in your house when you aren't there, having those alerts sent during the periods when the home is empty makes more sense. Get alerts when movement's detected at home and link to other devices like our smart lights or plugs for even smarter control.

Many of us wash our clothes at 40C or above out of habit, but modern washing powders work well at temperatures as low as 20C. The lower the temperature, the more energy you’ll save. Although it’s probably best to wash bedding, towels and underwear at a higher temperature – at least 40C. On exterior walls, reflector panels that are fitted behind your radiators can help direct more heat back into the rooms, making them cosier overall. You can also get a similar effect for less money by putting aluminium foil on the wall behind the radiator. Each device does one job competently; for example, the £29 Motion Sensor watches for movement and can either be placed on a shelf or attached to a wall.
Manage devices – This screen shows the status of each device, signal strength of the connection to the hub, power source and, for sensors, battery status. You can also rename each device or remove it from your list of installed devices. According to Wikipedia, Hive was created in 2012 by British Gas, which is owned by Centrica. The first product was, naturally, a smart thermostat to control heating and hot water. Since then the Hive product line has grown and U.S. distribution started last year. If you’re thinking about turning your home into a "smart" home and are just starting out, you face a smorgasbord of products from a lot of vendors.
The fridge and freezer are some of the biggest energy users in your kitchen and they’re also working 24 hours a day, every day, unlike other appliances. Regularly defrosting them keeps ice under control and means everything can then work efficiently. But with built-in Frost Protection, you don’t need to worry. If the temperature drops below 7°C, Hive thermostats automatically turn on the heating to warm your pipes and keep things flowing. Tumble dryers can be really helpful and save you time but they are also very energy hungry. So try to dry your laundry outside when you can, although we know this can be difficult during the colder months.
"Hive just added 3 new products to its line of smart home devices". The company launched two new products in January, 2016. The Active Plug enables users to attach devices, monitor whether they are on or off, remotely-controlling them using a mobile device or laptop. The Window or Door Sensor allows customers to remotely monitor when windows or doors in their home are opened or closed.
